College Night - Films by college or post graduate students

Friday, November 6, 2009 Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
$15 per person
Reception 6:30 p.m.
Screening 7:30 p.m.

An evening of great food followed by amazing short films created by college and graduate students, many from right here in the Bay area! This event is sponsored by the University of Tampa Department of Communication – Film Media Arts.

Tragic Self Improvement of Ross Lawson
The grass is always greener when you’re someone else…
What we liked:  Excellent story structure and focus, good performances. Young Directors Award.

Frank-N-Brains
Frankenstein goes looking for the right girl.
What we liked: The strong, silent type wins out in this animation from Ringling. 
Rhapsody
A modern and colorful Romeo and Juliette from one of our favorite USF filmmakers.
What we liked: Inventive storytelling, joyous ending. Florida Choice Award.
Anchored
When negativity weighs you down, a little faith and love can set you free. 
What we liked: Great music, great message in this short animation.
On the Road to Tel-Aviv
A timely tale of fear and prejudice that exposes the emotional effects of war. 
What we liked: Building tension alleviated, but never broken, by humor. Powerful filmmaking from FSU Film School.  Florida Choice Award.

Heavenly Appeals
Short animation about the risks of self-righteousness.
What we liked: We don’t like mean people either.  

Tough Crowd
Stand up comedy takes on the war on terror. 
What we liked: Cute jokes and courage under fire stand out in this FSU film.

Oxygen
A little animated help with Chemistry class.
What we liked: Mixing chemistry and comedy = Fun!

Cinq
Mesmerizing look at the faces of addiction.
What we liked: Beautifully shot, subtle but powerful short from USF. Florida Choice Award. 

On the Level
Animation of a man who works a little too hard to level a picture.
What we liked: Dad, is that you?

BR-Zap!
A young boy discovers the mysteries of the microwave. 
What we liked: Adorable kid! But don’t try this at home…

Trunk
Two people fleeing their own mistakes collide, and find forgiveness.
What we liked: Amazing scenery, good performances, building suspense, a solid script from UT graduate Tim Compton. Florida Choice Award. 

Appliance Night Out
When the lights go out, so do the washer and dryer…
What we liked: Hysterical!
